Umberto is Associate Professor at the Department of Physics and Chemistry, University of Palermo, and a Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter (MPSD) in Hamburg, Germany. He earned his PhD in 2008 from the University of Genoa and subsequently held a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of the Basque Country, Spain, from 2010 to 2016. Since 2017, he has been leading a research group at MPSD.

Umberto’s research interests span the intersection of condensed matter physics, quantum chemistry, strong-field physics, and light-matter interactions. His work has significantly advanced theoretical and ab-initio numerical methods, contributing to a deeper understanding of complex phenomena in these interdisciplinary fields.

Interests
  • Strong light-matter coupling
  • Cavity and Floquet material engineering
