Open Call for PhD Position
Overview
An open call for applications is announced for a 36-month PhD position at the University of Palermo, Italy. The contracts will start in November 2025 and the positions will remain open until July 30th 2025.
About the Position
The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in Density Functional Theory (DFT), Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory (TDDFT), or other first-principles electronic structure approaches. This position is part of a larger project effort including experimental partners, which aims to develop understanding of the ultrafast dynamics of XUV excitons.
Project Overview
The successful candidate will extend TDDFT to model XUV-excitons in complex materials, improving accuracy and efficiency for attosecond electron dynamics. Key tasks include:
- Developing TDDFT methodologies for XUV-excitons, benchmarking against Many-Body Perturbation Theory (MBPT).
- Simulating exciton generation and dynamics using real-time TDDFT for attosecond pump-probe experiments.
- Exploring efficient computational approaches to capture dynamical excitonic effects.
The project will utilize the Octopus code, a highly-scalable open-source software package designed for TDDFT simulations in real space and real time.
